Dinner Ch outside salad

Forget what I said earlier about not finding any good food in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.  I take it back!  After a couple of stumbles, we discovered some gems.

Perhaps the most memorable, so far, is an outdoor restaurant that sits on the highest point in Chateauneuf-du-Pape called Le Verger Des Papes.  The charming eatery is nestled into the ruins of a centuries old castle that’s said to have housed many of the popes’ favorite wines during the middle ages.  The view is quite spectacular which I’m sure influenced the food’s appeal.

However, it’s worth a visit if you’re here!

Keep in mind, the cuisine in this region is country French…grilled meats are common, often with a nice but not too heavy savory sauce.  They’re perfect accompaniments to the big, adventurous red wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

However, that being said, the star of the evening (other than the ’04 Chateau La Nerthe Cuvées des Cadettes) was the salad…an incredible symphony of fresh greens, tiny fried raviolis, velvety smooth sliced fois gras and medallions of Caille which we were told is similar to our quail back home.  It was delicious all tossed with a light vinaigrette and all the better sitting on the patio overlooking the beautiful valley at sunset.

The journey continues….enjoy!

The salad sound marvelous. Top that off with a good wine and a view what more could a girl ask for. It is fun imagining being at a place like this and vicariously living through these adventures with you.
