Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad

The time is NOW to dine in delight!  Houston’s Restaurant Weeks is winding down, but there’s still a short time left to explore some of Houston’s finest eateries (places you normally save for special occasions)  with dishes like Tony’s Caramelli  or an incredible watermelon & heirloom tomato salad featured on the cover of Prime Living magazine. Here’s just a few of my favorite newsworthy recipes to wet your appetite before you head out for a night on the town.  I recently featured these on KPRC’s morning newscast.  The specials at participating locations only last until the end of August, so be sure capitalize on these superb deals before September comes!

CINQ Heirloom Tomato salad

The Heirloom tomato is in season and the fabulous CINQ has your ticket to all of its juicy goodness!  Cinq at the La Columbe D’Or is a wonderful restaurant.  Chef Jeramie Robison is incredibly talented and one of the friendliest, down to earth guys you’ll ever meet.  He hails from Lousiana.  Here’s his recipe for an Heirloom Tomato & Watermelon Salad – it’s so light and refreshingclick here.  It pairs beautifully with the Anne Amie’s 2010 Cuvée  A Amrita from the Willamette Valley.

Precious pockets of pure pleasure! Tony’s is  where my hubby and I got engaged eons ago, so I definitely have a soft spot for this lovely restaurant. And their wine cellar is enormous! Ask your waiter for a nice recommendation to go with this creamy, cheesy Caramelli.  Tony’s choice – the Planeta Chardonnay from Sicily.  I’ve got the recipe for this incredible pasta…click here.

Texas Peach Salad

How Texan is this? Hill Country peaches, fresh pecans and Tabasco peanut brittle? Sign me up! My friends at Brennan’s of Houston were kind enough to share this popular recipe with me for their Texas Peach Salad. So good, so easy…click here.  Then pair with Kung Fu Girl …a Washington Riesling from the talented Charles Smith winery.

Other not to miss spots…one of my very favs is Masraff’s on Post Oak Boulevard, Philippe’s (the ‘new kid’ on the boulevard), Olivette at the Houstonian (be sure and do the Namelaka tart for dessert), Brasserie 19 (for a relaxed weekend lunch where you can get Domaine Ott by the glass),  Le Mistral…yikes, I could go on and on!!  Enjoy!
