The Akaushi breed is a prized commodity in Japan…literally a national treasure. The entire breed is owned by the Japanese government. One herd exists outside of Japan, and it’s right here in Texas.
The beef from this fascinating breed of cattle grades two levels higher than prime. Plus, Akaushi meat contains extremely high amounts of intramuscular fat or marbling with a fatty acid composition that is lower in saturated fats than other meats. Eating Akaushi, some doctors say, could actually help lower your cholesterol.
