This is something that is very exciting to me. San Antonio is taking part in a nationwide Facebook contest, where the city with the most “likes” receives $1 million dollars for hunger programs. San Antonio has a real shot at winning this…and you can help.
With your help, our city can climb to number one on the list. In order to vote, all people have to do is go to Walmart’s Fighting Hunger Together page on Facebook and “like” San Antonio. Click here to find out more. Voting runs through December 31.
You can only vote once, but you can like as many cities as you want
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Walmart, through its Fighting Hunger Together campaign, pledges $1.5 million to six communities where families are struggling to feed themselves. It is asking the public to decide where that money will go by “liking” that community on Facebook. The city with the most “likers” will get $1 million. The next five cities will get $100,000 each.
The cities in the current top three rank high on the food hardship scale developed by the Food Research and Action Center. In San Antonio, a city with more than 1.1 million residents, 19.9 percent of the families cannot afford regular meals. That is more than twice the national average of 9.2 percent.
Programs that would benefit, should San Antonio win, include the San Antonio Food Bank, which supports hundreds of agencies across South Texas, and the San Antonio Metropolitan Area Command of the Salvation Army.
