Tamales! Do you have a favorite? I know I do; so, I am definitely looking forward to “¡Tamalada Throw-Down!” on Friday, April 16th. I’ll be a judge in the third annual tamale recipe contest. About a dozen of San Antonio and Texas’ top chefs will compete. The Throw-Down is a partnership between Delicious Tamales, The San Antonio Restaurant Association and Bolner’s Fiesta Products.
There are three categories: traditional, contemporary and sweet. Chefs can submit tamales in different categories, and they will “defend” their recipes to me and the other judges. Sounds like fun! I can’t wait to see what the chefs come up with!
The recipe contest is the preview to “TamaleFestSA”, which will be Saturday, April 17, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lonestar Pavilion at Sunset Station. There will be live music, a kid’s area, and lots of tamales, of course! And, this should be a blast: there will be a tamale eating contest! If you love tamales and think you can beat out the competition, you can be register to be a part of the contest. Registration continues through Thursday, April 15th at any Delicious Tamales location. Two contestants will be drawn from each of the locations. For more info, head to their website.
