A Forgotten Red & Delightful White

Print Friendly

I recently had a couple of wines you don’t often see in the mainstream here, and I wanted to share them with you. Both have roots dating back many thousands of years.

The first is a delightful white from Campania – the grape and the wine are Greco di Tufo – different producers sell this wine under different labels.

I first had this wine at Il Sogno and fell in love with its toastiness. We recently had it again when we were in the Mediterranean with many of you on the cruise. I have not seen this on the retail level but by all means, ask Ralph at the HEB Plus at 1604 and Blanco, and if it’s available, he’ll find it for you.

I tried the fun red last night at Copa’s. It’s an Italian Albino, and I’m told it’s a grape that was almost forgotten until an Italian winemaker ‘resurrected’ it.

This is a velvety smooth red – dry, lots of fruit, few tannins. Copa’s sells it by the glass for about $13. They’ll retail you a bottle for about $30 if you take one home.

Don’t forget if you’d like more fun wine ideas and great recipes, head to my website. While you’re there don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter—you could win a Viking mixer from Homewerks valued at nearly $500.
