Okay, this has nothing to do with food and wine, but it does have a lot to do with good taste in TV! Tonight, was the last night of Boston Legal on ABC. Talk about a LOSS of good taste for millions of TV viewers. I never thought about Boston Legal in terms of the ‘age’ of its actors until Express-News columnist Jeanne Jakle brought it up during a recent discussion. Candice Bergen, James Spader, William Shatner are all over 45. When I watch Boston Legal I’m impressed with the topics they tackle. Even if I sometimes disagree with the position they take, their arguments are thought provoking and worthy of consideration. And what about the clever writing, incredible acting (SPADER ROCKS!), and who doesn’t love Shatner! So sadly, Boston Legal will go.
In its place probably a half-baked reality show which is much cheaper to produce. USA Today recently asked the stars of the show what was the biggest mistake the show made…in other words, why was it canceled. Candice Bergen’s reply was probably right on the money…Bergen: “Being overly intelligent, too much range, of taking on everyone. I think the network would say we were guilty of being too smart, having too much content — more than people could even digest.” Whatever the reason, it’s our loss as TV viewers.
